Natural Makeup Trends 2020

We all love admiring the latest makeup looks on the runway or through our favourite celebrity style crushes, but these high fashion makeup trends don’t always translate into wearable, everyday looks - especially for young faces!

Today I wanted to explore some of the latest makeup trends we’ve been loving in 2020 so far, and give you our tips on how to actually wear them day-to-day.

Coloured Eyeliner

Who said eyeliner should always be black? Not us! It’s not something we see often but coloured eyeliner just makes sense - and we’re so glad it’s emerged as a makeup trend for 2020. This is also a great alternative if you feel black eyeliner is too harsh looking on yourself or your kids!

How to wear it

When it comes to this makeup trend, we’re seeing a lot of coloured liquid eyeliner around. It looks fabulous but it’s not the easiest for young hands to apply. Let’s be honest, even as an adult liquid liner can be challenging!

Our take on this trend is to do it with a thick pencil liner instead. It’s much more forgiving, and you can even take a blending brush and make it a smudged out liner look (rather than a sharp line).

What you’ll need

The Mineral Eye Liner Chubbie is perfect for this.

The Coloured Smokey Eye

Coloured smokey eyes, as opposed to the traditional black or brown varieties, are another trending look for 2020. I love this idea for kids experimenting with makeup because a traditional black smokey eye can easily look too heavy or mature. Colour is much more fun! It’s also great for adults if you’re just over black smokey eyes and want to try something new.

How to wear it

We’re seeing a lot of pinks and reds with this trend, but unless you’re a makeup pro, these colours can easily look unflattering (or even like you have irritated eyes!). The easiest colours to get started with are blues, greens, golds or purples as they’re naturally flattering colours to wear in the eye area.

What you’ll need

Use our Mineral Cream Eyeshadow in Pearl White or Palest pink as a base for maximum colour payoff, then go in with our Glamour Intense Eyeshadow in your shade of choice.

Multi-coloured Nails

We’ve been fans of mismatched manicures for some time now, but now they’re trending for adults too! This is a really fun one for any age, even those who aren’t quite into makeup yet.

How to wear it

This one is nice and easy, all you need to do is pick your shades and which fingers to use them on! We say get creative with it - you could try going in a rainbow pattern, contrasting colours on each consecutive nail or picking your three favourite colours and alternating them. There are no rules with this one.

What you’ll need

Our Neon Nail Polish is perfect for this and comes in just about any colour you can imagine.

Statement Lips

I love a statement lip because it’s easy to pull off, and all you need to do is pair it with really simple eye makeup and you’ve got a full makeup look ready to go. The only downside? Sometimes bold colours can take a lot of reapplication and maintenance to keep looking fresh throughout the day. Thankfully I do have a secret weapon for that and it’s perfect for young ones who aren’t ready for lipstick yet as well.

How to wear it

So what’s this secret weapon? Lip tints! A good lip tint or lip stain should give you the same colour payoff and finish as a normal lipstick, but it’s much longer lasting.

What you’ll need

Our Lippy Liptints are perfect for long-lasting wear and great colour payoff. They also have a nice sheen to them so there’s no need to layer up with lip gloss - just one step and you’re done.

Polished Brows

Brow trends are always changing over time, but thankfully fuller brows seem to be here to stay. One thing’s for sure, if you’ve ever over-plucked your brows, you’ll know it’s very hard to get them back to their natural shape. That’s why for my girls, I prefer keeping their brows natural and letting them have fun experimenting with brow makeup instead. That way there won’t be any regrets when they’re older!

How to wear it

I love this trend because you can change up the look of your natural brows without actually changing their natural shape. Just take a brow colour either matching or one shade darker than your natural brows and using an angled brush, fill out your brows using short strokes. Focus the colour towards the tail of each brow with just a few light strokes on the inner sections. The main part of your brow should be slightly lighter to keep things looking natural and not too blocky.

What you’ll need

Try the Mineral Brow Palette and a clear brow gel over the top to keep everything in place.

I hope this blog has inspired you or your young ones to try something new. I’d love to know which of these trends you’re a fan of (or not!). Let me know in the comments.
